Overheating is generally caused by excessive use of laptop. It can also be caused by using your laptop in a place having high temperature, or by placing your laptop over the heating absorbing items. Another major cause of this problem is of cooling hardware or the dust problem. Most of the laptop after a long usage carry this major problem. In this, the laptops become extremely hot and the fan throws extremely hot air. Fan not working is one of the main reason of overheating

How to fix: Check if your fan is working properly or not. If fan is working fine then get a cooling pad for your laptop to overcome heating problems.

How to fix: Change the battery or get it checked with any laptop repairing center.

Ram issue

Most of the laptops either stop working or just turn off randomly because of ram crashing problem. This problem generally occurs when your ram stops working or by the displacement of your ram.

How to fix: To resolve this problem, unplug your ram, cool and clean it out and plug it again. Check if the problem is solved or not. If it doesn’t go and have your laptop checked by the service center.

Faulty charger or power supply

There is another major cause for the laptops to turn off randomly that is the faulty power supply. It is the most dangerous problem as it can cause severe problems to your laptop like your laptop can go dead due to the faulty power supply. Because the value of current decrease and also increases, so it greatly damages the battery and laptop itself. 1. None of these are my problem. My laptop turns itself off and doesn’t restart, every two weeks on a Tuesday, anytime between midday and midnight or so. I have looked for the programme that is doing this, but cannot find it anywhere. It started after I did a back up to a portable hard drive about six months ago. At first it was every Tuesday, now it is every fortnight. I used a My Passport hard drive to back up to. I think I must have accidentally told the laptop to back up or something, even though I don’t have the device plugged in and haven’t since that back up. This is driving me mad now, please help.

    1. You might want to delete any backup software of My Passport. If it doesn’t work, least you can do is try to reinstall windows completely. I hope it will fix your problem.

  4. My laptop often shut down randomly when I play tf2 but I assume it is because my laptop

  5. My laptop keeps shutting down and restarting after about 5 minutes or so. When it starts it says that is there is an application error.

    1. Check your RAM and your battery. I’m not an expert but it seems like your RAM is failing, or your laptop doesn’t have enough power for it. It could be also a CPU problem…

    1. I start Micro Soft Edge and it works fine for a while then it shuts down. I start it back up and same thing happens.

  6. my laptop shuts down by its self and will not switch on again after using it every 20 minutes unless i connect my charger to it.
NB: there is still power in the laptop before it shutsdown

  7. My laptop suddenly shuts down and the power supply to the laptop is steady.(even when its cold, no excessive heat. )and the shutdown pace continues to increase. what could be the problem.

    1. u need a new hard drive that it takes a lot longer to boot the older it is because the mechanical arm is wearing out and is taking longer to find the necessary info to boot I suggest a SSD it is much faster but the down side it cost more to get more space like a 1 tb hard drive might cost $100 but a 1 tb SSD might cost around $245 just because a SSD is stored on a chip rather than a set of disks

  8. my laptop just start for a few seconds with an unusual sound of fun then turns off again…. what can be the problem?

  16. My laptop goes off suddenly.
When there is still enough battery of about 50% .

When it goes off, I have to charge it for about an hour before I will be able to turn it on.

    1. Replace your battery. I feel like the system thinks that there is more battery capacity than there actually is, making your computer shut down randomly when the battery is actually 0%.

Also, if you didn’t know, the capacity of batteries become smaller over time. For example, a 4,000mAh battery could really be a 2,000mAh one after using it for a long time.

  17. Biswanath Debnath

My laptop turns off exactly 2 hours after I turn it on, every time, everyday for the past two months. I suspect this is a processor issue but am not sure. I do not understand why the exact 2 hours gap for self-turn off. If anybody is knowledgeable about the issue, please educate me. I will address the problem accordingly. Thanks in anticipation.

  23. Yesterday night I was working on my laptop for 4 hrs. And randomly it got shutdown, but it din’t get fully tuned off, there was a blue page in my lap, (there showed a notification as OVER HEATING AFTER THE DISPLAY OF BLUE PAGE) then I turned off my lap using power button, then again I restarted it, it happens to be the same thing, So again morning I did the same thing as restarting but it became well. I consulted about this with some one they said it is due to battery problem, but I changed my battery recently only. What may be the cause for this problem MAY BE BATTERY PROBLEM or OVER HEATING.
Two days before I charged the laptop for more than usual hours.

  28. My HP laptop turns off when I pick it up. I have never dropped it. It is under a yr old. Has plenty of battery.

  29. I have 2 older HP laptops that both started shutting down without warning within days of each other. Could a Windows update have caused this? Or, why would 2 laptops start doing this at the same time? Both ran great before this, both have been on cooling pads for a long time. Just seems odd to me that it would be a problem with the computers themselves when it is 2 computers at the same time, right?

  30. MY laptop (Dell Latitude e5420, 16 GB RAM, i7 2760qm) shuts down intermittently (not very often, but quite often) when on battery power. The battery indicator turns red and starts blinking, then it just switches off. The battery, charger and RAM are absolutely fine and the system does not overheat anytime. What could be the cause of the problem and the solution to it?

  31. I had my computer on the charger as I was trying to finish up an assignment. I walked away from the computer for approx 20 minutes and when I come back, it was off and I couldn’t get it to come back on I removed the charging cord and my computer is very hot to the touch.
