Social Good

We cannot turn a blind eye on the destruction of our own backyard. The people that are suffering are not half a world away. They are right here in the United States along the Gulf Coast. These people may or may not be our immediate family and friends, but they are the friends and families of our neighbors and support backbone. It may not be in the cards for us to take a sabbatical from work and go directly to the sites most harmed by the BP oil spill or still suffering from Katrina’s wrath five years ago, but we can still help make a difference…and see the difference in people’s lives. Join us on August 25th, 2010, for CitizenGulf’s National Day of Action.

Attend

Join the Social Media Club Boston on the evening of August 25th for a nationwide event to raise money for the victims of the recent Gulf Coast disasters. Register at http://citizengulfboston.eventbrite.com/. We’ll be kicking things off at 6pm at the Precinct Bar in Union Square, Somerville with a reception. At 7pm, we’ll enjoy presentations from one or two of our special guests, speaking about the situation and efforts in the Gulf. Raffle and LIVE music will follow — stay tuned for more info on the band, guest speakers and raffle items.

Your $10 cover charge will get you in the door, a drink ticket for your favorite New Orleans – inspired cocktail, free food, and the opportunity to listen (to great bands), learn (from smart people) and win! Prizes will include a vacation package in Cape Cod, gift certificates and much, much more!

Go here for parking and directions: http://www.precinctbar.com/info/parking.php

All ticket sales and donations from CitizenGulf National Day of Action events will give families living in affected areas the extra support they need to get their children off to a great start this school year and to help ease stress on families with after school support services and activities

Donate

Not able to be at one of the 15 cities hosting an event? No problem. You may submit donations through the Citizen Effect site. Proceeds will benefit the Catholic Charities of New Orleans.

We see our partnership with Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans as a long-term commitment to help the fishing families and as the perfect organization to not only kickoff our National Day of Action on August 25, but also to keep individuals engaged in the relief effort by taking pledges to fund small but critical projects.
Dan Morrison, CEO Citizen Effect

Vote

According to the Citizen Event site, the third immediate action that you can take to benefit local Louisiana families is voting for Gulf Coast Benefits Co-Founder Sloane Berent’s Pepsi Refresh Contest project.

Start Your Own Event

Not located in or near one of the 15 registered events? Start your own event and register it on the Citizen Effect site and their team will set up your event page to ensure all proceeds go directly to the charities, with no worries about pass through fees.

But wait…there’s more…!!!!

Just kidding, this is not an infomercial. All joking aside, this is a serious issue. Every single one of us has a chance to make a difference. It will all add up…the money, acts of gratitude and goodwill toward our fellow patriots. Remember this, one day a disaster may arrive on your doorstep. Who will be there to support you?

A special thank you to my dear friend, Geoff Livingston, for opening my eyes to see that there is more to life than everyday woes. Change begins with each individual making a commitment.

Why You Should Sponsor the Twestival: Creative Capitalism

February 4, 2009

Tweet. Meet. Give. Last night was the first night of my International Marketing class. Usually the first night, as I unveil the syllabus and blogging responsibilities, I have a lot of deer-in-the-headlight looks . In the spirit of international learning, I ended the overwhelming evening with a video from last year's World Economic Forum session [...]
